RWYC Late Autumn Catch Up Series 2020

We now have pleasure in providing details of the new Autumn series, which has changed to the original concept, due to the latest Covid-19 regulations.

The series is open to existing, joining and temporary members only. First race is on Sunday 4 October and will be held on all subsequent Sundays up to and including 29 November. We will be racing as per the RWYC sailing instructions, so no different to our usual Sunday racing. Cruisers are now also included.

Start times are as follows:

October

Cruisers 1.15pm

Flying Fifteens 1.30pm

Dinghies  1.35pm

November

Cruisers 12.45pm

Flying Fifteens 1.00pm

Dinghies 1.05pm

Note, races will be started promptly, so please make sure you are on the water in plenty of time, the Race Officer will not wait. If we use a dan mark, it will be the large triangular orange one.

The cruisers will have one long race and their own course, Fifteens and Dinghies will have two back to back races. If practical, the faster dinghies will do an additional lap to the rest of the Dinghies and have their time adjusted accordingly, you will be told on the day if this is the case. Due to this feature, courses will either be a windward leeward or a triangle to ensure fairness. Hopefully all fleets will be finishing racing at a similar time.

In consultation with the Race officer and Hon Sailing Secretary, if it is obvious that there will be no racing on a Sunday, because of zero wind or it will be blowing old boots, I will email all skippers by 6.00pm the previous evening to inform that the racing for the day has been called off.

Off water, after racing, there will be large mugs of steaming soup, chilli, stew or whatever Zoe cooks up with a chunk of bread for all competitors, served up stairs. In addition there will be spot prizes each day, so worth turning up afterwards in the Club for these alone. There will also be trophies for various days, with overall trophies for each of the winners, 10 races counting out of the 18.

To help contribute towards the food and spot prizes, there will be a small fee of £10 per sailor for the whole series, trust you feel this is good value?

Due to a restriction in numbers, if you have not already emailed me your boat class, boat name, sail number, email address and mobile number, can you please do so by return. Please respect all the Club’s Covid-19 regulations, as we can only run this event if we do and if you are asked to be seated downstairs rather than upstairs due to numbers, then please act accordingly.

Look forward to seeing you all out on the water and in the Club afterwards, fingers crossed for some great wind.
