November Social update

Our October socials were enjoyed by several members. We learnt about life and
times of Arthur Ransome featuring his many tips on Sailing in Swallows and
Amazons with practical demonstrations of fending off a buoy with a mop and using a
red plate from Woolworths for a port hand light. This was followed by the Laying Up
Supper where we had a pub band playing including singalongs finishing with a
rousing chorus of What shall we do with a drunken sailor.

Himalayan Perspectives by Edward Astle – Royal Windermere Yacht Club
As we head into November we have an excellent talk by Edward Astle about
mountaineering in the Himalayas on Thursday 14 th at 7;30. No need to prebook the
talk but do book for Supper with Zoe in the usual way, she assures me it will not be
Dhal Bhat!

This is followed by the Annual Dinner and Prize Giving on the Saturday that promises to be a
fine event, but is fully booked.
