MAY 2022 COMMODORE’S NEWSLETTER
Dear Members, 1st May 2022
The Season has got off to a great start with the weather providing excellent sailing over Easter Weekend.
The following weekend, the R.W.Y.C. held The Flying Fifteen Northern Championship and World Qualifier. This was a huge success. The weekend provided competitors with some of the most testing racing that many have ever seen. Gusts in excess of thirty knots an hour, from an Easterly direction, provided massive shifts. Competitors from as far away as Ireland, The Isle of Man and even Australia, were made to feel welcome. Steve Bewsher did an outstanding job with his Team on both days, managing to set exciting courses. Steve Goacher and Tim Harper, won the event. In second place was Jeremy Davy and Martin Huett. Third place was Nigel Tullett and Gavin Tullett. Dave Heron and Keith Jamieson did a super job on the organisational front and Royal Windermere Yacht Club Members rallied round, helping to launch and recover boats. Zoe and her Team provided sandwiches and bacon buns over the weekend and breakfast on Sunday for those who wanted it. On Saturday night, sixty people sat down to an excellent meal and the Bar was full all evening. The weekend was completed with scones and cake and the prizegiving. There was a New Members’ Day on Easter Saturday which went well, with New Members meeting up with Flag Officers, Fleet Captains and Secretaries and our new Centre Manager, Matthew Daly. Look out for another New Members Day, later this Summer.
Matthew “kicked off” our first Youth Sailing Club Event on 29th and 30th April. Matthew has plans to use Monday nights for introducing Members who wish to improve their racing and/or sailing skills, with personal tuition. He is now available for Power Boat/Safety Boat and Sailing Sessions. These are to be booked through Zoe. In addition, he would like to start Family Nights, or Sunday Mornings, as a Training Session to encourage families to sail together. The Paddle Board Club which will be starting on 11th May and the 4th May, will be a good chance to meet up and have a drink. Paddle Boards can be booked through Zoe. Matthew is also keen to try and start Family Nights. Adult Squad will have started at the end of April, meeting on Sunday mornings – 9.30 am for 10.00 am start. contact Paul Aston if you wish to attend.
Duty Roster for Safety Boats and Assistant Race Officer:
I need to remind everybody that the Duty Roster is there for all to see. Please do check it regularly and where there are gaps, please volunteer to fill them. We all need to appreciate that, if there are not enough volunteers for Safety Boats, there will be no racing on that particular day. Doing duties on the Safety Boats, is a great way to meet new Members and old friends.
Club Ribs: These are to be used for Safety Boat and Training.
New Members:
There will be another New Members Day fter the Jubilee Weekend.
