Commodore’s June Newsletter
Dear Members,
It seemed appropriate to send you the June Newsletter this year, not in time for the first day of June, but, after our first Pennant Weekend which has just finished today. What a fantastic weekend it has been! On behalf of everybody involved, a big thank you to Riggy for his concept of the Pennant Weekend. For once, the weather “played ball”, making this a weekend to be long remembered. The only exception being the wind did not make life easy for our Race Officer, Steve Bewsher. However, as usual, the racing on Saturday was great fun, although, Sunday was lost, due to the lack of wind. Saturday evening saw the band, “Fleetwood Mac Covered” perform all the old favourites, followed by a disco which ended the evening at midnight. Prior to the band, fish and chips were served by “Spit ‘N’ Crackle”. The concept for the day and evening, was, for everybody to have fun and I am confident that everybody did enjoy themselves. Prizegiving on Sunday afternoon, signalled the end of a good weekend.
Our next Pennant Weekend is on the 12th and 13th of August. The Commodore’s Day will be on the 1st September, when there will be a Hog Roast. I am sure early booking will be necessary. Look out for details of these two weekends.
Training
Training has been very busy with Youth Sailing Club going well on Friday nights, Saturday mornings. The Club is offering Race Training on Saturday afternoons for Juniors. Power Boat Courses are going well and, in particular, Refresher Courses are available. As the water gets warmer, we shall be offering a limited level of Safety Boat Training, such as, recovering capsized boats.
Duty Rosters for Assistant Race Officer and Safety Boats
As the Season develops and with Summer holidays coming up, there are spaces which need filling, to see us through to Autumn. Please do continue to volunteer.
Sailing
The Seventeen Foot Class completed its first Race Week. This was a trial four day event, over Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. This proved to be well received. Due to the good weather, sailing in all the classes has been well attended. Long may it continue!
Social News
The Cruiser Fleet Dinner is fast approaching and takes place on Friday, 23rd June. Other events to look forward to, are a Fizz and Strawberries Wimbledon Event around Saturday 8th July, (still in the early stages of planning); RNLI Racing on Saturday 15th July; Pennant Weekend 13th and 14th August; Commodore’s Day 2nd September. Do look out for events on the Club’s website and join in.
