Commodore’s July/August news
Wow what a month we have just had, the RNLI Open Regatta was very well attended with 37 boats entering and racing in the upper lake. Three races were planned for the day but in the end, only two races were completed. The prizes on offer were three “Peter Gooch Trophies” which were kindly donated by Maiden Marine last year and the Peter Glaister trophy.
Jonathan and Seb’ Nagle won the Dinghy Handicap Fleet in a GP14, placing 3rd overall boat.
Steve Jones from the WCA was sailing in a Sonata, winning the Cruiser Fleet.
Ian Ackroyd and crew won the Flying Fifteen trophy, placing 2nd overall.
Nigel Tullett and crew were 1st Seventeen Foot Yacht, plus 1st overall boat in Chameleon – number 46.
£510.60 was raised through entries and donations, plus a further £246.00 taken in table top sales, this makes for a very successful day overall.
Vice commodore prizes were also sailed for that weekend, where the winners received very nice engraved whisky glasses.
Robert Richardson competed in the Musto Skiff world championships at Weymouth, sailing for The Royal Windermere Yacht Club. It was a very competitive event with some great sailors taking part! Robert won the Youth category and finished a fantastic 2nd overall.
Then the big one;
Windermere 17ft class held their second race week of 2024, which ended with the 120th year celebration and social. The Yacht parade through the bay had 24 boats, all sailed through in numerical order. This was then followed by a short race, with 19 boats on the start line! The whole day was unforgettable for all involved, I am very proud to of been a part of It.
What next you ask?
Robert is going to another World Championship; The GP14 Worlds at Pwllheli in Wales between August 10th and 16th, but this time he will not be sailing for the club on his own, but with 5 others, yes 5 more boats from the club are competing, Let’s bring it home!

Up & Coming Socials;
Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th we will see another pennant weekend at the club. There will be racing for all classes, The Spit and Crackle fish and chip van is back by popular demand on the Saturday evening, followed by live music from Naomi and The Nerds, Cask beer will be on tap, at a discounted price of £3.50 a pint. Event tickets are limited at a very reasonable price of £20 each, please reserve tickets early to avoid disappointment.
Commodores Day; Sunday 25th August
Pirates and Buccaneers of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club will raid a Spanish Island for Treasure! Then return to a Greek port to eat drink and be merry.
The club flotilla will be available to use, land lovers are welcome but might be forced into a long walk down a short pier or plank!
A Greek Catering Ship will be in the port to cater for 100 pirates, please sign up to get tickets for food with the Club Purser (Zoe).
Belle Isle race; Monday 26th August
3rd Race week Starting on Monday 26th August
17ft Fleet Buffet is being held on Wednesday 28th and all members are welcome to join in.
Nearer the time more details will be found on the club website for the up-and-coming socials or club notice boards.
I hope that you are all looking forward to the summer, at the club and get yourselves involved in the up-and-coming events. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us all, maybe sunny and windy would be nice!!!
