Commodore’s Comms, November 2025

Hello Members,
Well, here we are with my final signing off newsletter. The month started with racing for the Ducker Transom last Sunday with a great turnout of 12 Flying Fifteens, enjoying some testing conditions and with close racing throughout the fleet. The transom is a nice reminder of our dear departed friend who was the driving force behind extending the racing calendar until the end of November following Covid lockdowns.  Hopefully Lake levels will subside by next Sunday so that we can launch and do it all again!
Speaking of next Sunday, it is of course Remembrance Sunday and we will be observing a 2 minute silence at 11am around the club and grounds.
The following weekend of course we have the club’s showpiece event the Annual Dinner and Prizegiving on Saturday 15th November. The event is now fully booked with a waiting list. As usual it should be a wonderful social event, and I’ll look forward to seeing you all there.

Training has now finished for this year, but looking ahead to next January, Andrew Smith is very kindly running a Day Skipper theory course at the club, details of which are on the website. If you have a mind to do some Yacht Chartering or just want to learn a little more about navigation, chartwork and seamanship, then it’s a great course. It runs over 6 days and there are I think 2 exams at the end. Have a look and sign up if you want to do something rewarding on those dark January days.

And so, my term of office comes to an end on the Day after the Annual dinner. It’s been a huge honour and like every other leadership role it comes with its challenges, but I’ve had lots of support and good advice throughout. I’d particularly like to thank my fellow Flag officers, Richard and Keith, and the Hon officers, Phil, Sue, Chris and Julian for their support and hard work throughout my year. They’ve made it easy for me. Good luck to Richard when he takes the reins on Sunday 16th.
