Commodore’s Comms’ , Febuary  2025

Dear Members

Well didn’t January go quickly!!  A pleasant surprise for me as I was doing moist January!! And this week we have seen what looked like our first days of Spring which must get everyone excited for getting back on the water again this coming season.

Not a lot to report this month from the fleets , but of course of note, is the Seventeen Foot owners meeting on Saturday 22nd Feb,  a very good indicator that the season is just around the corner.  This will be followed by lunch to which an open invitation is extended to all members and which can be booked through Zoe as usual.

Looking slightly further ahead, and as all of the racers probably know, the Racing Rules of Sailing have been amended and recently published by World Sailing. Our Rear Commodore Keith has arranged for a talk on the rules to be given by a rules maestro from the RYA on Saturday 1st March.  There is a link on the club website to book the talk , and soup and sandwiches which will follow it. This should be very interesting and I really hope that we get a lot of interest. The idea is also to open this to other local clubs so please book early before it is opened up. If we get lots of interest from other clubs, it is a good opportunity to try and sell the club to encourage new memberships.

Another date for your diary is Saturday 15th March  at 12 noon, when we will be holding the club AGM. The Hon Sec via Barty,  will be sending out notices and papers very shortly so please make very effort to attend . I do see this this as being an important meeting for the club going forward.

There are various works taking place at the club  (Northern slipways and gates) which you may have seen if you have been recently and the plan is  that these will be complete before the start of the season.

Sorry its brief this month , but daughters wedding has taken over for the first few days of the month and I shall be retiring to the Caribbean for a few days R and R tomorrow.

Best wishes

David Heron
