Commodore’s Comms April 2025
Well, here we are at last, Spring has sprung, and we find ourselves at the beginning of the 2025 sailing season, after what has seemed like a long, dark winter. Racing begins tomorrow night (Thursday 3rd April) and as usual we look like we have the usual frustrating Easterly winds to greet us on the start line. However, we are back on the water so lets hopefully have a great turnout and get the vibe in the club going again.
Last Sunday there was a well-attended and very productive tidy up morning, trimming shrubbery, re laying the dinghy slipway mats, general rubbish and moss removal, to get the club looking spic and span for the new season. I would like to particularly mention and thank Graham and Marion Newman for the wonderful floral displays they produce and arrange around the clubhouse, providing a wonderful palette of vibrant colours. Following the tidy up there was a very well attended carvery prepared by Zoe. If you were at the club on Sunday, you may have met new member of staff Saphy, who will assisting behind the bar, hopefully on lots of weekends throughout the season. If you haven’t met her, come along and say hello.
So, April will be a busy month for us, with Easter in the middle, followed the weekend after (26th, 27th) by the Flying Fifteen Northern Area championship. Entries are rolling in already and with this being a World Championship year for the class, and we hoping for a 30 boat plus entry. As such, the club will be very busy that weekend. Please also remember that winter storage boats must be removed by 4th April.
On Easter Saturday (19th) we will be having a Waking up Supper, which will follow on shortly after Saturday afternoon racing, it will be a buffet and details will be published very shortly, so make it a date for your diary. If you are a new member of the club, please come along and make yourself known to the club officers and be assured of a warm welcome

Looking slightly further head to May, the Sunday Morning Sailing group (previously Adult Squad) will be running again in the capable hands of our club volunteers Nigel Hutchinson and Paul Aston. This is not formal training but provides a great opportunity to gain sailing experience and informal racing coaching for both adults and juniors in either the club boats or your own. Times will be 0945-12 noon and its just a case of bringing some gear and turning up if you’d like to participate. There is a group WhatsApp for communication.
Formal training with our new Instructor Callum, will also commence in April/ May under the watchful eye of Richard Thompson our Training Principal. . Look out for further details of courses and dates on the club website and social media, or contact our Administrator Marion in the office.
We have lots to look forward to this season, so please come along, get involved and support the club events and sailing as much as you can.
