Good evening, it is now the middle of august holiday season with lots of things happening!
The GP14 Worlds have just finished with local sailmaker and club member Chris Robinson sailing with Matt Mee, adding a World Championship to their National Championship. It was a very well supported event with five other club boats competing, Robert Richardson finished in 17th place, Gavin Tullett and Jonny Stevenson finished 34th overall and 4th in the Silver Fleet, Simon and Jonny McVey finished 41st overall and 4th in Bronze Fleet.
Jonathan and Seb’ Nagle were only 2 places behind Simon, Harry Frith was 3 places behind Jonathon and Seb’. Well done to them all, it sounds like you had a fab week. Also Flying Fifteen Sailor Tony Woods finished 4th in the Sonata Nationals at Medway with Andrew Kirks brother Paul finishing 14th.
This coming weekend is Bank Holiday which is always a very busy week at the club;
Saturday morning the 17′ fleet are holding their owners meeting to review the season so far and to make recommendations for the 2025 season. Saturday afternoon is normal racing 17′ class, Cruiser class and Flying Fifteens, this is the day to get your racing fix in as Sunday is Commodores’ day!
Captain Grey Beard has sent all members a personal invitation to attend the Commodores Day on Sunday!
The day is pirate themed and has been planned by myself with a little help from my Buccaneers, I just want the day to be FUN for all involved.
Friends and family of club members are welcome to join us if they cross the pursers hand with just £10 to go towards the food, the catering is being served form a Greek street food van between 1pm and 3pm.
There will be events held both on and off the water for all to be involved, club vessels can be used.
The day commences in the boat park from 11am, fancy dress is a bonus as there will be a prize!!!
I would love to see people getting in the spirit and dressing the boats and flying some flags.
Please book in via the pursers email [email protected] as we need numbers for the caterer,all are welcome and the more the merrier!
Please go to the bar for your booked food ticket on the day; “no ticket = no food”
Monday morning is the famous Belle Isle race, this involves 1 lap of the island and is great fun to compete in as well as to spectate, followed by a Prizegiving after the race in the bar area.
The yachts start their race week for the Susan Crossley Trophy (the solid silver model yacht by the bar) which is raced for on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The week is ended with a buffet after the racing that day at the club, which is open for all to attend.
September starts with the Commodores’ Prize for all fleets.
The cruisers have their Inter Club event on the 7th.
The Southport 24-hour race returns this year on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd, we have the club boat entered!Simon McVey and myself are organizing the event for our members this year, there is a list for you to put your name down for helming or crewing the boat or just to go down to support the slick, well-oiled team!
Back at the club sees the Flying Fifteen / Cruiser joint Class Dinner on the Saturday evening September 21st.
Thursday night September 26th is the Dinghy Class owners meeting, the class captain James Nield is stepping down (thankyou for all the work you have done) this means we need to elect a new captain to drive and encourage the Dinghy Fleet forward.
