March news from John Richardson
Spring arrived in February, now it is March and winter is back. It’s busy in our house at moment with Robert’s 18th birthday and our silver wedding anniversary on the same day! At least we’ve known about it for 18 years. Sailing is not too far away, and in the meantime we have a few events for you to attend.
First off, curry night on 8th March at the club, book with Zoe please. Let’s have a good dinghy turnout it will be nice to catch up.
The Annual General Meeting of the club on 23rd March. This is your opportunity to find out how the club is being run and what direction it is going in, so please try to attend.
South Windermere Sailing Club is holding a one day handicap open on 24th March for dinghies and flying fifteens called the ‘Wintermere Cup’, you can get some secret practicing in.
The club is having a Rules workshop on the 30th March. This is a half day event and would be a good opportunity to bring your boats down to rig before/after. There will be plenty of people around to help / interfere.
The GP14 Northern Bell series opens at Burwain SC on the 31st March and it would be great if sailors from RWYC can attend and help promote our open being held later in year.
First Race is April the 4th that’s No Joke. After racing we are going to have a Dinghy Owners meeting, to discuss some issue for the coming season. These being mainly handicap related. There will be a questionnaire sent to you soon, so please respond.
Ullswater Yacht Club has their Daffodil open event on the 21st and 22nd April. This is a well run event with diverse range of boats competing: there will be Asymmetric and conventional fleets sailing in separate areas and courses. Well worth attending being not too far away and you can go home on Saturday night if you don’t fancy camping
We are also planning to have a rope workshop class in early May with Ian Turnbill from Rope-4-Boats. Learn about modern rope and how to splice taper join rope end to end and make rope shackles.
PS did I mention that we’ve got a GP14 again?
