Flying Fifteen Fleet
The Flying Fifteen is a twenty foot 2 person keel boat designed by Uffa Fox in 1947. RWYC has a long history associated with the class and at the present time we have around 17-18 boats in the fleet and have racing on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season which runs from April to the end of October. There is a wide range of abilities within the fleet, but wherever you are in a race the competition is close and exciting. The fifteen is an ideal boat for the lake and goes well with a wide range of crew weights, both male and female. In fact worldwide, several of the top sailors are husband and wife, male/female crews. The fifteens are dry sailed at the club and launching and recovery is via slipways and fixed timber jetties. The club has a small tractor to aid recovery of the boats from the Lake.
Each year the club hosts an open meeting for the Class generally in April, which forms part of the Waples Wine or Lakeland Grand Prix series. In 2018 the club hosted the first Worlds qualifier for the season which attracted an entry of 47 boats.
Off the water we are a friendly lot and generally meet post racing in the bar to dissect the days racing.
