Zone Squad

To get to the zone squad you first have to go to two events. The first event is usually a one day event followed by a training day. If you get in you then have six training weekends, one weekend per month. The weekends are usually held at other clubs, but, with one exception, no more than two hours away. I have found the zone squad training very helpful and I have improved hugely in all areas of sailing. Everyone is very helpful and encouraging.

I have made lots of new friends and found it interesting sailing on different lakes, most of them small, making me appreciate Windermere. Once you have completed the training you are expected to do a number of events including the Eric Twiname (zone championships) at Rutland, The Nationals and The Northerns. You are only allowed to join the zone squad twice. The zone squad is the first step in the RYA junior training scheme; from the zone squad you can either join the National or Youth squad.
