We have been sailing GP Fourteens at Windermere since 1952. We were one of the first clubs to adopt this class.
The GP was designed in 1949 by Jack Holt, as a family sailing dinghy which could be easily built at home. It turned out to be a popular racing boat, as well as being able to take the family cruising. It could take an outboard motor, and can be towed easily behind even a small car. Thousands were built all over the World in the 1950's and 60's.
The GP is an excellent boat to learn to sail, being very forgiving, but at the same time makes for exciting and demanding racing.

There is an active and well-organised class association which controls the development of the class and organises national and area events.
We sail on Thursday evenings and Sundays, from April to October, and normally expect turnouts of ten to fifteen boats. Thursday evenings are for the dinghy fleets, and we sail with the Lasers, Mirrors and RS400's in separate races. The racing is followed by supper.
Visitors and new members are always welcome. The Club GP is available for prospective members to try out before committing to buying a new boat for themselves.
