8. Disclaimer of Liability
A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility. It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself. By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and that her crew is competent to sail and compete in them. The boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third party claims in the sum of at least £2,000,000. Nothing done by the organizers can reduce the responsibility of the boat, nor will it make the organizers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organizers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats and beachmasters. The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities.
9. Safety
9.1. Flag Y will not be flown. Dry suits and adequate personal flotation devices must be worn by all competitors whilst afloat. This amends Rule 40.
9.2. All boats shall have a dedicated towing line at least 4 metres long.
10. Notices to Competitors
Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board in the entrance hall of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club.
11. Changes to Sailing Instructions
Any changes to the SI will be posted at least one hour before the start of a race it will affect.
12. Signals made Ashore
12.1. Signals made ashore will be displayed on the flagstaff at the Royal Windermere Yacht Club.
12.2. When Flag AP is displayed ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than 30 minutes after removal unless at that time the race is postponed again or abandoned. This amends the flag signal definitions.
13. Protests
13.1. Protests shall be written on forms available from the race office at The Royal Windermere Yacht Club.
13.2. Completed protest forms shall be returned to the race office at The Royal Windermere Yacht Club within the protest time limit which is 1 hour after the last boat finishes the last race of the day.
14. Scoring
14.1. Each day of the event will be scored using the low points system in RRS Appendix A.
14.2. A maximum of four races will be sailed on each day of the regatta. On any day in which three or more races are sailed the worst score shall be discarded.
14.3 Providing a minimum of 2 races have been sailed on any day that day’s results shall count towards the overall regatta results.
14.4 The overall result of the regatta will be scored by taking a boat’s finishing position in each of the days of the regatta and applying the low points system in RRS Appendix A to those positions.
14.5 If 3 counting day’s racing has been completed by a boat the worst day’s result shall be discarded.
15. Substitution of Competitors
15.1 On each day of the regatta substitution of competitors will not be allowed without prior written approval of a member of the race committee. Applications to substitute a competitor must be accompanied by a completed entry form for the individual involved.
15.2 Helms may use a substitute crew on different days of the regatta and any such results will count towards the overall regatta result. Written notification of such substitution must be made.
