Our club has raced its own designs of keelboat classes since it was founded in 1860. This has culminated in the development of the Windermere 17ft Yacht, the first of which was built in 1904. This is a restricted class open keelboat, and the design has been developed more or less continuously since then. About 30 boats exist today and are raced as keenly as ever. The class has kept abreast of current developments in yacht design.
In the late 1940's the club adopted Fireflies as a dinghy class for its younger members, and this was followed in 1952 by GP Fourteens, and we were one of the first clubs to do so. In the 1970's we adopted Mirrors for members' children, and this has proved to be very popular and successful. About this time the Fireflies died out and were replaced by Lasers.

In 1963 the club adopted Flying Fifteens, and these have been popular ever since, with a fleet of 20 plus boats today.
The most recent addition is the RS400, which is a fast-growing fleet, with 15 boats racing this season.
