The club races six classes of boat – 17’ Windermere Class yachts, Flying Fifteens, GP 14’s, RS400’s Lasers and Mirrors. Mirrors are sailed by junior members. There is no provision for cruisers or motorboats apart from yacht tenders, some dories and RIB’s.
We are a recognised RYA training centre for Sailing RYA level 1 and for Power Boat RYA level 1 and 2. There are several weeks of junior training courses during the summer holidays.
To become a full member you first take up applicant membership. To do this you make yourself known to the Hon. Secretary, fill in an application form and pay the appropriate fee. Applicant membership is normally offered for 12 months only. It costs the same as a full member’s subscription.
Applicant membership gives you an opportunity to get to know club members and the way the club functions. During this 12 months, if you still want full membership, everyone over 12 years old mentioned on your application form will need to complete an election form. You need four, full members, who know you, to sign your election form/s. Two of them should be currently serving on a committee. Completed election forms should be given to the Hon Sec who will put you on the waiting list.
The waiting list is considered by the General Committee and if approved will become the election list. The election list is presented at the following General Committee meeting and – assuming that there are no objections or unforeseen difficulties – the nominees will be formally elected to full membership. It may take some time!
At this point a joining fee – a one-off payment equivalent to your annual subscription - becomes payable. If you resign, as opposed to allowing your membership to lapse, and provided your resignation is given in writing, you may re-join without incurring a further joining fee, though you will have to endure re-election.
