• ClubsmallWelcome

Our aim is to encourage and promote sailing and racing on Lake Windermere. We run an extensive racing programme from April to October, and social events throughout the year.

The Club was founded in 1860, and was granted its Royal Warrant during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. We have occupied our present site at Bowness Bay since the 1880's. Our present club house was built in 1965.

We are a sailing club with superb facilities, and an ideal location for sailing on England's largest lake, Windermere.

For over 150 years, the Royal Windermere Yacht Club has been at the centre of sailing on Windermere, and today maintains large and active fleets of keelboats and dinghies, and organises a full calendar of sailing and social events.

We are an approved RYA Training Centre

We run regular training courses, for both adults and children, which are open to non-members as well as members.      We exist to promote sailing and racing on Windermere, and we welcome people of all ages to get in touch and try the sport of sailing.

We hold regular racing for several different classes of dinghy and keelboats.
Our fleet of Windermere 17 footers, shown here, has developed continually since 1904.
We host open meetings for the classes that we sail, see our calendar.

In addition to our class racing, we sail dinghies of any class using the PYS system. These races are sailed alongside our other dinghy classes on Thursdays and Sundays.

  • CruisersmallCruiser Racing

In 2012 we adopted a Cruiser fleet, which races on Sundays alongside our other classes.

The fleet consists mainly of First 21.7s, but all sailing cruisers are welcome to join in. We are looking forward to expanding the fleet in 2013.
